Information for International and Non-Governmental Organizations

International Organisations

According to the rules of procedure, relevant international organisations or institutions and regional organisations may attend and participate as "Observers" at the Meetings of States parties. In practice this has included the: UNHCR, UNDP, UNICEF, WHO, WFP, OCHA, FAO, OHCHR, ASEAN, SAARC, GCC, AU, SADC, Pacific Islands Forum, OSCE, NATO, EC, OAS, Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, the Commonwealth, the World Bank and regional development banks, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Sovereign Order of Malta, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, and the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining.

Each relevant organisation, including UNHCR, UNDP, UNICEF, WHO, WFP, regional organisations, the ICRC, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Sovereign Order of Malta, the ICBL, and the GICHD must designate a head of delegation and such other representatives, alternate representatives and advisers as may be required. The names of these individuals should be notified at the following address:

Note: When the Meeting of States parties is taking place in Geneva, a Conference Registration Form must be completed for each delegate not based in Geneva and forwarded to the Executive Secretary of the Meeting at the address above. On the basis of the Conference Registration Form the Pass and Identification Unit, UNOG Safety and Security Section, will issue security identification badges granting access to the UN premises at Geneva.

Non-Governmental Organisations

Member organisations of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) that wish to take part in the Meetings of the States Parties should contact the Executive Director of the ICBL who will collect necessary information from prospective ICBL delegates and forward it to the Executive Secretary of the Meeting. Other Organisations

According to the rules of procedure, organisations other than those explicitly listed in the rules may attend the Meeting of the States Parties as observers upon receipt of an invitation to do so provided by the Coordinating Committee of Co-Chairs and subject to approval of the Meeting of the States Parties. Interested organisations can request an invitation by writing to the Executive Secretary of the Meeting, who will forward requests to the Coordinating Committee:
