Mr Boniface Guwa Chidyausiku is currently Zimbabwe’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York, USA .
Ambassador Chidyausiku holds a Master of Science in International Relations and a Bachelor of Arts (History Honours). Among other courses, he attended the Advanced International Programme on Conflict Resolution at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University, Sweden.
In the past, he has served as Ambassador & Permanent Representative of the Republic of Zimbabwe to the United Nations, to the Conference on Disarmament and the World Trade Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland (1999 – 2002); and as Ambassador to the Republic of Angola (1996 – July 1999); the People’s Republic of China, with multiple accreditation to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Islamic Republic of Pakistan (1990 – 1996).
Ambassador Chidyausiku, a combatant with the Zimbabwe Liberation Army was commissioned at Lt Colonel Rank in 1985. He subsequently served as Defence Attaché with the Embassies in Washington DC, USA and in Canada, with multiple accreditations (1986 – 1988).
2003-2005, he was the President of the UNDP’s High Level Committee on Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries (TCDC). In 2002 he served in the following capacities - Chairman of the Committee on Regional Trade Agreements in the World Trade Organisation, Geneva, Switzerland; Vice President of the 49th Session of the Trade and Development Board of UNCTAD; Head of Delegation to UNCTAD Mid Term Review Conference in Bangkok Thailand; and as Chairman of the TRIPS Council in the World Trade Organisation, Geneva, Switzerland.
In 2002, Ambassador Chidyausiku was the Deputy Head of Delegation to 4th WTO Ministerial Conference in Doha Qatar; a member of Member of the Africa Union Panel of Experts on International Trade Matters; and a member of the Selection Committee on the Appointment of Members of the Appellate Body of the Dispute Settlement Body of the WTO.
