Survey of Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education

The Group of Governmental Experts to Prepare a United Nations Study on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education (resolution 55/33 E of 20 November 2000) will hold its second session at the Center for Nonproliferation Studies of the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California from 8 to 10 August 2001.

Among other items, it will begin a review of the preliminary information received in answer to a survey of the current situation in the teaching and training of disarmament and non-proliferation tDDAy. Governments, educators at all levels, disarmament and peace-related institutes and non-governmental organizations from around the world have submitted information on the courses they offer, the curricula developed and the pedagogical methods used to teach peace, arms control, disarmament, counter- and non-proliferation. Information will continue to be collected until 30 October 2001.

All interested individuals and organizations are invited to visit the website of the Department of Disarmament Affairs to review the information received. All are welcome to forward relevant information and experience in the field to the Group of Governmental Experts.
