2001
|
This festival is in celebration of UN's Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations. We strongly believe that such a dialogue must include the world's youth. To fulfil this objective our goal is to bring hundreds of youth from around the world to the City of Vilnius for a week of festivities featuring music, arts, and performances, mixed with debates and discussions on important issues of our "global village," such as tolerance, otherness, diversity, peace, ecology, sub-cultures, etc. |
|
This promises to be an exciting and memorable event for all participants. We are inviting several music groups as well as young artists from different parts of the world. We hope that this festival can make an important and timely contribution to our generation's need for cultural exchange and mutual understanding beyond national borders. |
|
For the participants in this festival, we provide free food and accommodation for the entire duration of the festival, including the day before and after the festival. We ask the participants to contribute $25.00 to the festival organisers to cover the administrative costs. |
|
We are hopeful that we can also provide help for the travelling expenses of needy participants from the less affluent areas. This depends on the scope of our fund raising which is currently under way. |
|
This is a youth festival organised by the youth for the youth. We want to enjoy ourselves while we also engage in serious conversations about serious issues in the present world. Hopefully, there could be a new set up for dialogue among the whole global youth community – as a result of this festival. |
Program
We will have two kinds of activities during the festival: discussions/debates in the morning, and cultural projects in the afternoon. Work groups will be formed according to background and interests of the participants. The aim of these projects is to introduce one’s culture to other members of the group. These activities will create common projects, reflecting the dialogue among different cultures.
Projects:
- Ceramics;
- Fire sculpture;
- Land’s art;
- Happenings, performances, actions;
- Music;
- Theatre;
- Dance;
- Video film about the festival
Discussions
Participants present their reports on the topics of the dialogue among civilisations, participating in the discussions and debates.
Ceramics
Professional artists will work with participants and teach how to express themselves through the clay. They will make small things to be fired at the “kiln,” to be built in the Sereikikės park, as well as big clay-fire sculptures. The main idea is to represent ones culture via ornaments, figures, etc.
Fire sculptures
Young people, lead by a professional sculptor will build several sculptures made from wood, straw and other burning material. Those sculptures will be burnt at the closing ceremony of the festival.
Land’s art
Artists will create several objects of land’s art in various places of the Kalnai park. The main idea is to create objects in accordance with the environment representing one’s cultural identity.
Musical projects
Every participant or the group of the participants will bring archaic and modern element (technique, instrument, idea, style, etc.) representing their musical culture. All together they will create the common project reflecting the dialogue among civilisations via music.
Theatre project
Every participant or group of the participants will bring etude, idea representing their culture (epos, fairy-tale, myth, etc.), and something reflecting their cultural identity. During the workshops they will create common project to be presented at the final concert.

Cinema
Films from various countries, representing life of young people, their problems, etc. will be presented in Vilnius cinemas.
Video film about the festival
A young Lithuanian film director will create a video film about the festival: its various activities, creation of common projects, discussions, parties etc. The non final version of the film will be presented at the final concert, and later on – its final version will be sent to the UN Television to include in the programs on the UN General Assembly meetings on Dialogue Among Civilizations in September 2001.
Other activities
Depending on the input by the participants, we may have alternative activities: THIS IS NOT A CLOSED PROGRAM.
