Recommendations
OIOS issues more than 2,000 recommendations annually to improve internal controls and correct underlying obstacles to organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Recommendations are regularly tracked to ensure compliance and progress reports are made available to the Secretary-General and General Assembly. The overall implementation rate of OIOS recommendations after three years is over 90 per cent.
Financial benefits
Since 1995 OIOS has identified savings to the Organization totaling some $436 million, of which $204 million was recovered or saved, as of 31 December 2007.
