of the Agenda for Action on Social Development in the
ESCAP Region
Governments in the region have adopted the Agenda for
Action on Social Development in the ESCAP region in which
they have identified specific, time bound goals and
targets towards addressing the major social concerns
confronting the region. To assist the governments in
attaining the social development goals and targets,
various activities are being undertaken by the Social
Policy Section to strengthen measures and mechanisms to
implement the regional Social Development Agenda,
facilitate the exchange of experiences and information on
national approaches and achievements, and promote
regional cooperation in the implementation of the
regional Social Development Agenda.
Drug
Demand Reduction and HIV/AIDS Prevention
For issues concerning drug demand reduction and
HIV/AIDS prevention, ESCAP is working towards achieving
regional cooperation through the development of a
comprehensive and coordinated regional prevention
International Drug Control Programme, strategy in
collaboration with the United Nations the Joint United
Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, other concerned United
Nations bodies and agencies, intergovernmental
organizations. ESCAP has completed organizations and
non-governmental two projects in this field and is

RICAP
Subcommittee on HIV/AIDS
The Subcommittee on HIV/AIDS was established in 1994 as
one of the susidiaries of RICAP, the United Nations Regional
Interagency Committee for Asia and the Pacific. Membership of the Subcommittee
comprises of representatives of UN bodies and agencies,
intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations
supporting HIV/AIDS-related activities in the Asian and
Pacific region at the regional, subregional or
