 The fourth session of the Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development was held in Bangkok in October 1997. The Committee reviewed selected issues related to its work, namely
  • refinement and promotion of methodologies for the integration of environment and development;
  • environmental aspects of coal-based energy and its more efficient use; and
  • environmental management of mineral resources development in the Asian and Pacific region.

As part of the UN reform process, this Committee was replaced by the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Development as of 1 January 1998. The first session of this committee will take place in October 1998.
