:: United Nations Asian and Pacific Meeting in Support of the
Palestinian People
“Strengthening
international consensus on the urgency of a two-State solution.”
Jakarta, 8 and 9 June 2009
:: United
Nations Public Forum in Support of the Palestinian People
Jakarta, 10 June 2009
The
Meetings were held under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the
Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. The objective of the two meetings
was to encourage broad international action, including by Asian and Pacific
States and societies, in support of Israeli-Palestinian peace and for achieving
a negotiated solution to the conflict based on a shared vision of two States,
Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security. From the
regional perspective, both events considered how Asian and Pacific States could
effectively contribute to resolving the conflict through their action in
national and intergovernmental mechanisms.
Participants in the Asian and Pacific Meeting discussed international
efforts aimed at revitalizing the political process; the imperative of a just
solution for Jerusalem, and the support by Asian and Pacific countries for a
permanent settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
