世界难民日

多年来，许多国家和地区设立了自己的难民日及难民周。其中最有影响的是多个国家在6月20日纪念的非洲难民日。
非洲拥有最多的难民并一向以慷慨相助著称。作为非洲团结的象征，2001年，联合国大会通过了一项特殊的决议。在这项决议中，大会注意到2001年是1951年的《关于难民地位的公约》五十周年，并且非洲统一组织同意国际难民日与6月20日非洲难民日可在同一天举行。大会由此决定从2001年起，把6月20日定为“世界难民日”。（附注：非洲统一组织于2002年7月9日更名为非洲联盟。）
