2000年12月18日, 大会考虑到世界上移徙者众多，而且数目日益增加, 决定宣布12月18日为国际移徙者日(决议 55/93)。1990的这一天, 大会通过《保护所有移徙工人及其家庭成员权利国际公约》(决议 45/158).
请各会员国、政府间组织和非政府组织，举办国际移徙者日，除其他外，宣传移徙者的人权和基本自由、分享经验以及制订确定保护移徙者的行动
