Teaching/Learning Philosophy
The LCP uses a communicative approach to language learning and teaching, encouraging students to
participate actively in the language learning process. This approach is learner-centered and emphasizes
communication in realistic social and professional situations.
As much as possible our teachers serve as facilitators, allowing students to be in charge of their own
learning. The teacher sets up exercises and gives direction to the class, but the students are responsible
for their learning including speaking in the classroom. This responsibility to participate often leads to
an increased sense of confidence in using the language.
Our classes emphasize communication in realistic social and professional context. While grammar is still
important in the classroom, the emphasis is on communicating a message.
Our goal is to help students communicate their needs and thoughts in the language they are studying.
