About Us
By offering couress in the six official United Nations languages, Arabic,
Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish, the Language & Communications Programme:
- promotes linguistic balance and multilingualism
within the Secretariat.
- provides the opportunity to learn the official
languages of the Organization, and
- enhances the ability to perform professional duties with
greater linguistic competence.
Our team of 27 full-time staff members, which
includes the Officer in Charge, coordinators, head teachers, teachers
and administrators, services the language learning needs of
approximately 2000 clients (UN staff and diplomats) each term (three
terms a year).
Teachers and coordinators for all six languages are recruited both locally and internationally
and are highly qualified and experienced in the field of language teaching. All teachers and
coordinators hold at least a masters degree in applied linguistics (or related field) and have a
minimum of 5 years of teaching experience. Many of the LCP’s staff members also publish and
present at conferences.
The administrative offices for the LCP (Officer in Charge/ Coordinators / Head
Teachers) are located on the 18th floor of the Secretariat Building. Our
classrooms are located in three buildings: DC2, North Lawn and Secretariat. [Map]
