The Executive Office

The Executive Office is responsible for all financial, personnel and general administrative matters concerning the Department as delegated by the Under-Secretary-General for Management. The Department has in excess of 1,200 staff and a biennial budget of approximately 280 million United States dollars.

The core functions of the Executive Office include the following:

  • Assist the Head of the department and senior management in the development and implementation of the financial, personnel and administrative framework;

  • Provide programme managers the support needed in the formulation of the proposed programme budget and financial performance reports;

  • Certify the incurring of obligations and expenditures against the funds allocated to the department, in line with the Financial Regulations and Rules and related administrative instructions and allotment advices;

  • Coordinate the full range of staff and human resource issues, i.e., performance appraisal, staff selection (recruitment and promotion), training and career development and personnel administration of staff ensuring consistency in the interpretation and application of Staff Regulations and Rules and related personnel policies and directives;

  • Liaise with the Office of Human Resources Management, the Office of Programme Planning, Budget and Accounts and the Office of Central Support Services on behalf of the department.
