Central Planning and Coordination Service

The Central Planning and Coordination Service (CPCS), through its Meetings Management and Documents Management sections, coordinates and plans the meetings and documentation processes. It ensures that all required support is provided to intergovernmental organs and bodies, conferences and Member States in accordance with the rules and regulations of the United Nations. The CPCS provides a seamless interface between Secretariat units, organs of the United Nations and Member States, and facilitates coordination amongst international organizations through the International Annual Meeting on Language Arrangements, Documentation and Publications (IAMLADP).  CPCS as a hub for scheduling and organizing provision of the required services is always ready to spring into action to enable meetings of the General Assembly and the Security Council to take place at a moment’s notice, day and night, 365 days per year.

The Service prepares the Journal of the United Nations, which provides on a daily basis the lists of all intergovernmental meetings held at Headquarters and references to documents to be considered by these meetings, summaries of proceedings of meetings of the previous day, as well information on other activities. The electronic version of the Journal provides hyperlinks to all language-versions of documents listed therein.

The Service also comprises the Monitoring, Evaluation, Risk Management, Statistical Verification Unit (MERS). The Unit was included in the 2008-2009 budget in response to: the Office of Internal Oversight Services’ (OIOS' ) recommendations on the need to address the gap in the evaluation oversight of some Secretariat programmes, which included DGACM; the approach and findings of the French External Auditors on risk assessment who initially identified a number of DGACM risks; and DGACM's initiative to create a central unit which would be responsible for coordinating the monitoring, evaluation, risk assessment and statistical verification reporting by the various units.
