Amir A. DossalExecutive Director, United Nations Office for Partnerships Amir Dossal, Executive Director, UN Office for Partnerships, guides the
development of strategic alliances for the United Nations with corporations,
foundations and philanthropists aimed at achieving the Millennium Development
Goals. He also oversees the management of the UN Democracy Fund (www.un.org/democracyfund) which aims to strengthen democratic institutions and enhance democratic governance in new or restored democracies. Amir has developed numerous partnerships for the United Nations, including with the Commonwealth Business Council, the European Foundation Centre, Google.org, the LTB Foundation, the Synergos Institute, the US Chamber of Commerce, and others. He has also spearheaded the UN's engagement in new areas including the technology sector working with Cisco Systems, Ericsson, Microsoft and Vodafone. Since joining the United Nations in 1985, Amir has led a number of new initiatives: 1997: Set-up the Management Policy Office to oversee reform within the United Nations. 1999: Established the partnership between the United Nations and the UN Foundation to ensure coordination, channeling and monitoring of Mr. Ted Turner's $1 billion contribution to the UN. 2005: Established the UN Democracy Fund, to strengthen democratic institutions and enhance democratic governance in new or restored democracies. 2006: Set-up the first ever Peace-building Support Office to help bridge development gaps in post-conflict countries. Amir is a Chartered Accountant (FCA - England and Wales) having qualified from Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, London in 1975. He has lived and worked in Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, and North America. He is married with one son. |
