News from the Field: UNDEF participates in event on dialogue between political parties and civil society in Mercosur

Cristina Colón, Senior Programme Officer of UNDEF attended the final seminar of the first round project UDF-RLC-06-072 “Opening Spaces for the Dialogue Between Political Parties and Civil Society in Mercosur” in Montevideo, Uruguay in early December.

This project, executed by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation creates a platform for exchange in the five Mercosur countries, through awareness-raising and skills-building workshops. It has enabled political parties to communicate more effectively with society and be more “representative” and has allowed civil society organizations to articulate their interests and demands, as well as build institutional networks to make their voices heard at the political level. The participants were then asked to create their own projects for the exchange of dialogue between political parties and civil society.

The final seminar which took place 5 and 6 December was attended by over 100 participants from the 5 Mercosur countries who shared their project proposals and experiences.

Prizes were then awarded to the best proposals. The seminar was an opportunity for participants to network and to find ways to continue fostering the partnerships created.

You can find the speech delivered by Ms. Colón at the seminar in English and Spanish.
