Government of the State of Qatar continues to support the work of the UN Democracy Fund

The Government of Qatar declared its intention to continue to support the work of the UN Democracy Fund. As announced by Assistant Minister H.E. Al-Rumaihi during the 6th International Conference on New and Restored Democracies held in Doha from 29 October to 2 November, Qatar has paid the second tranche of its US$ 10 million contribution to the UN Democracy Fund. The check was personally handed over on 11 December by H.E. Ambassador Al-Nasser, Permanent Representative to the UN of the State of Qatar and Member of the Democracy Fund Advisory Board. The remaining US$ 4 million will be received by March 2007. Ambassador Al-Nasser reiterated his support for the activities of the Democracy Fund and expressed the wish to see the Fund involved in the follow-up to the Doha Declaration adopted at the 6th International Conference on New and Restored Democracies.
