Flags

The membership of the United Nations has grown from the original 51 Member States in 1945 to 191 members in 2002. Along First Avenue one can see the colourful display of flags of the Member States. Placed in English alphabetical order, the first flag at the level of 48th Street is Afghanistan, and the last one, by 42nd Street, is Zimbabwe.
