Treatment and Prevention

QUESTIONS AND ACTIVITIES
  1. Name three things that affect our ability to control the spread of infectious diseases.

  2. Describe how the treatment and control of infectious diseases are related.

  3. Why did tuberculosis start an upward surge a few decades ago? Why has DOTS been effective in treating and preventing TB?

  4. Why do bacteria resist antibiotics? Do they have a right to?

  5. Use the InfoNation feature of the CyberSchoolBus to draw up a table of three countries (from three different income groups) with their life expectancies and Gross Domestic Products (GDP). What relation do you notice? If you can find any figures for deaths due to infectious diseases in those countries use them to see if there is any further correlation.
