Risk
reduction education
Risk reduction programs help people who live
near landmines live more safely. Risk reduction education is part
of a holistic approach, dubbed “mine awareness,” that
moves beyond detecting and destroying landmines, and offers empowering
strategies to help people in affected areas learn how to identify
and avoid landmines, and to communicate safety messages to others
in their own unique ways.
Watch Risk Reduction Education--in action
Mine risk education brings communities of people together to learn
about the dangers of landmines and unexploded ordnance. This is extremely
important so that people are aware of the dangers while mine clearance
is taking place. Mine risk education teaches through posters, maps,
singing, plays and dancing. Here are some examples of programs in
action.
