Collection of urban solid wastes within the municipality of Almada

The students investigated the whole process of implementation of the urban solid waste collection in 2 different boroughs of Almada's district area. This included information campaigns for the general population; questionnaires on public opinion about the [solid waste collection] system and interviews with users; collecting information regarding the type of equipments used; identification of possible problematic situations; presentation of solutions. They have also studied controversial issues such as public attitudes regarding this subject; the difficulties in creating new habits related to waste disposal systems and the improvement of healthy, hygienic and environmental conditions on public areas, trying to raise, at the same time, public awareness towards this issue. At the end they wrote an article with their conclusions which was published on the Internet, as part of the "Young Reporters for the Environment" project.
