How is the day being observed at the UN?

At New York Headquarters

On 21 September, Secretary-General Kofi Annan will ring the Japanese Peace Bell, located on the front lawn of the Secretariat Building.

Following the ringing of the Peace Bell, hundreds of students will gather at UN Headquarters to commemorate the International Day of Peace.

Peace Bell Your message of peace Webcast

It is our most sincere hope that the deep and calming sounds of the Peace Bell will continue to remind us all of the importance of Peace.

-- His Excellency Ambassador Koichi Haraguchi Permanent Representative of Japan to the UN on the 50th anniversary of the Peace Bell

How brilliant it is to look out with peace in your heart with so much love and soul from within. Blessed are the peace makers for they shall be called the sons of God. Peace is unity. Blessed is the peace that dwells within you.
