"This is a very symbolic photo for me. The sun is rising over Namibia, over a mother and child, the present and the future. It's symbolic because I took it when Namibia became independent, that historic moment when the Apartheid-era South African flag came down and the Namibian flag was raised. It was a new dawn for Namibia."

"The UN had a significant role to play in assisting with democratic elections in Cambodia after years of internal conflict and oppression. I was in Phnom Penh to capture the elections and I came across a traditional dance performance. Before democracy, artists were driven out and forced to work in the fields. They weren't allowed to practice their art. I spoke to one dancer who said that at night, after work, she would quietly practice in the dark just so that she wouldn't forget. Now, after more than ten years there's been something of a revival of the traditional dance."
