8 years in Denmark

Vietnam has changed a lot the last couple of years, but being Catholic I still don’t fully trust that we will be allowed to live the way we want to in communist Vietnam. I don’t want to be a refugee again, so I hope I’ll be able to stay in Denmark. I’m a student at the math side at Svendborg High School. When I graduate I want to attended business school, since I am interested in math and accounting and want to get an internship with a bank. I sometimes feel like an outsider when I am around Danes, or I suppose you could say that I choose to be an outsider. Being Vietnamese I have been raised to behave well in the traditional sense, for instance not to drink like Danish girls do. I don’t feel like going out and getting drunk like most young Danes do. I instead prefer to stay home or spend time with my Vietnamese friends. The family bond is very important to me, and I would like to care for my own parents when they grow old. I don’t feel this obligation is a burden; on the contrary, I believe it must be quite lonely to have the small amount of contact with parents and children, such as the Danes have.
