This technical document, written to be easily understood by those without technical qualifications, deals with the phenomenon of El Niño as it effects a reversal in the direction of winds and oceans currents, changes in ocean temperature and torrential rains and floods, drought and cyclones worldwide. The destruction to life, property and infrastructure caused by the aftermath of El Niño is also discussed. This volume is the eighth in the series of UNEP/GEMS Environment Library.
