The first respondent in the Schools Demining Schools project is Mary Wareham, coordinator of the US Campaign to Ban Landmines. Mary Wareham has extensive experience coordinating anti-landmines efforts. Formerly, she was the convenor of CALM (New Zealand's Campaign Against Landmines) and was the NGO representative on New Zealand's official delegation to the United Nations Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) -- the only treaty prior to Ottawa that had a protocol on landmines. Since February 1996, Mary Wareham has been coordinating the US Campaign to Ban Landmines. The US Campaign to Ban Landmines is a coalition with 250 participating organizations coordinated by the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF). The US Campaign calls on President Clinton to enact an immediate and comprehensive ban on antipersonnel landmines.
