The Program
An exciting program is lined up for participating schools, including question and answer sessions with experts and school students in Mozambique, with Canadian Foreign Minister Lloyd Axworthy, and with landmine survivors and anti-mine activists. The first Q&A (week of October 27) will be with Mary Wareham who is part of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL), the winner of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize!

Remember, the main purpose of the project is for your schools to learn about the issue and then HELP SOLVE a part of the problem. So the most important activity is the Mine Awareness Campaign your schools will engage in -- during this campaign, your schools will raise consciousness about the issue and raise money that will go directly to the demining of schools, beginning with schools in Mozambique. Students will be able to follow the demining process.

The exciting opportunity to interact with experts, activists and other students will happen in a number of different ways. The CyberSchoolBus will organize several Q&A sessions in 1997 beginning at the end of October. These are one-off events in which schools submit questions by a deadline and receive answers within a few days. There will also be some on-going conversations, notably with Mozambique. All schools should use the e-mail/newsgroup set up to engage in discussions of their own on the topic.
