IPCC to Release First Section of Fifth Assessment Report on Friday

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is set to release the first of several tranches of its Fifth Assessment Report, the definitive report outlining the current state of scientific knowledge relevant to climate change in  Stockholm, Sweden,.

The IPCC will launch the Summary for Policymakers of Working Group I, which looks at the physical science basis of climate change.

Speakers at the launch will include UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Rajendra K. Pachauri, Chair of the IPCC, Michel Jarraud, WMO Secretary General, Achim Steiner, UN Under-Secretary-General and UNEP Executive Director, and IPCC Experts.

The full report of Working Group I will be released in an unedited version on 30 September 2013. It will be published online in January 2014 and in book form a few months later.

The Working Group II contribution – impacts, adaptation and vulnerability – will be considered by the IPCC in Yokohama, Japan, on 25-29 March 2014. The Working Group III contribution will be considered by the IPCC in Berlin on 7-11 April 2014. The Fifth Assessment Report will be completed with the Synthesis Report that will be considered by the IPCC in Copenhagen on 27-31 October 2014.
