The United Nations produces documentaries on selected themes and on activities at Headquarters and in the field. Documentaries vary in lenght, from 30 to 60 minutes, and are primarily in English and French.

The UN catalogue includes over 100 documentaries in active distribution, including Armed to the Teeth, on small arms; Secrets in the Sand, on biological weapons; The Long Shadow of War, on Afghanistan; and For Everyone Everywhere, on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Many of the UN documentaries have won awards at leading international film festivals. |
The UN also contributes to co-productions with broadcasters and recognized independent producers, and facilitates outside productions, such as Kofi Annan: Center of the Storm (PBS; U.S., 2003); The Peacekeepers (Office National du Film; Canada, 2005); and A Workshop for Peace (Peter Rosen Productions, Inc.; U.S., 2005).
