Worldwide, violence against women and girls devastates and impairs their ability to participate in the rebuilding or development of their countries. This has been the case in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti, as well as other war-town nations.

With the election of Liberia’s first female president, more women are taking a lead in rebuilding this post-war nation. Women in the police force are enforcing laws in an effort to reverse a legacy of sexual violence against women.

A quarter of Botswana’s population lives in rural areas. To stem the spread of HIV/AIDS, mobile testing units are being sent to remote villages in an effort to reverse what is reported to be the second-highest HIV/AIDS prevalence in the world.

APPLICABLE TO BROADCASTERS OF UN IN ACTION.

1. UNIA is free of charge to authorized broadcasters who agree to give credit to the United Nations each time report is televised.

2. A Letter of Agreement with specific terms and conditions will be forwarded upon negotiation with the Manager of the Multimedia Resources Unit.

3. Reports cannot be edited or sold.

4. Feedback on the programmes would be appreciated for promotional purposes.

Cambodian home-based women labourers work without contracts or social protections and can be at risk for exploitation and economic insecurity. To help keep these workers out of poverty, new training programs are educating them on their labour rights.
