In the West African nation of Mauritania, women who accuse a man for rape run the risk of being jailed simply for speaking out. The problem? Confusion over how to reconcile Islamic doctrine with international human rights law. The result? A penal code that offers little protection to victims of rape.

Two years ago, a group of Australian musicians got together to form a rock band. While that’s not unusual, the band itself certainly is. The members of “Rudely Interrupted” face barriers most of us can’t imagine. They have overcome scepticism and huge personal hurdles to fulfill their dreams.

For more than a decade, Burundi was torn apart by ethnic hatred. Hutus and Tutsis slaughtered each other, plunging this African country into a bloody civil war. No one was safe -- especially the children -- many of whom were forced to fight. But from the hatred, emerged a story of hope.
