VOICE OF NIGERIA to broadcast UNITED NATIONS TELEVISION PROGRAMMES
(NEW YORK, December 13) - Effective December 15, 2002, the significant pan-African
television, Voice of Nigeria (VON) will commence broadcasting a range of United
Nations television programmes, including award-winning "UN in Action",
a short program on the world's current affairs, "World Chronicle"
a half-hour talk show, and PSA's on UN special days, as well as selected documentaries.
Airing UN-produced television programmes, over an initial two-year period, Voice
of Nigeria, joins a growing UN family of broadcasters that includes CCTV China,
CNN World Report, RTP Africa, and RTVE and many other major international players.
VON, also an existing partner of United Nations Live Radio, defines its mission
of "reflecting Nigerian and African perspectives
making Nigeria's
voice heard more positively in the shaping of the world".
Now closely working with the "best of" UN TV programmes, and reaching
an audience of over 300 million in Nigeria and beyond, including Egypt and Ghana,
Voice of Nigeria aims to initiate an active dialogue among its listeners and
viewers, captivating a bigger audience, winning and sustaining the attention,
respect, and goodwill worldwide, particularly Nigerians and African in the Diaspora,
in its vision to become the international station of first choice for anyone
genuinely interested in Nigeria, Africa, and the world as a whole.
