SPANISH BROADCASTER RTVE TO AIR UNITED NATIONS TV PROGRAMMES
(NEW YORK, 15 July) Radio Television Espanola (RTVE) has signed a distribution
agreement with the United Nations Department of Public Information for television
programming.
RTVE, Spain's largest
media group, will air UN produced programming including 57 episodes of "UN
in Action", 39 episodes of "World Chronicle", and several documentaries.
RTVE will broadcast UN programming on its domestic and international services
reaching Spanish-speaking audiences in Spain, Latin America and the United States.
The two-year agreement, which commences on 1 July 2002, will add two key European broadcasters to a group of media partners that air UN programming including CNN, CCTV, and APTN.
"UN in Action" is a series of 57 short-format programmes (3-4 minutes) covering the work of the UN and its agencies. The programme is intended for broadcast on current affairs and news programmes.

The United Nations produces a range of programmes for television, including World Chronicle, a half-hour talk show featuring key personalities from the world of government, foreign affairs and public policy. In addition, documentaries on key issues are produced by the UN such as the award-winning "Armed to the Teeth" which focuses on the proliferation of small arms.
