RADIO TELEVISAO PORTUGUESA (RTP) to broadcast UNITED NATIONS TELEVISION PROGRAMMES
(NEW YORK) - RTP
uses digital technology able to support a 24-hour service of several channels
simultaneously. Effective September, 2003, the Portuguese RTP network commenced
broadcasting a range of United Nations television programmes, including the
award-winning UN in Action - short program series on the world's current affairs,
the Year in Review - a documentary featuring the world's most important events
over the year, thematic public service announcements and selected documentaries.
Airing UN-produced television programmes, Radio Televisao Portuguesa joins a
growing UN network of broadcasters that includes CCTV China, CNBC World, CNN
World Report, RTVE Spain, and many other major international players. By airing
UN programming on fully digital RTP Internacional channel assisted by a global
chain of 12 satellites, Radio Televisao Portuguesa will deliver a deep insight
at what UN does to more than 50 countries around the world.
RTP will also air UN programming on its RTP Africa project channel that delivers
news to Portuguese speaking audience of the six African countries. As a first
step, RTP will air a long feature UN documentary Patria about the process of
gaining independence in Timor-Leste.
