UNITED NATIONS TELEVISION PROGRAMMES
TO BE BROADCAST BY HONG-KONG BASED NETWORK
(NEW YORK, 15 July) Phoenix Satellite Television will broadcast a range of United
Nations television programmes effective 1 September 2002.
A slate of programming, including 57 episodes of "UN in Action", 39 episodes of "World Chronicle", and several award-winning documentaries will be provided to the Hong-Kong based broadcaster.
Phoenix Satellite Television will broadcast UN programming on its channels, which reach over 42 million households, including more than 140 million viewers in mainland China. The channels offer audiences a broad mix of programmes, including political and economic news, talk shows, movies and miniseries of both Chinese and foreign origin.
By distributing UN programming over a two-year period, Phoenix Satellite Television is joining a growing family of broadcasters that air UN produced television programmes, including CNN, APTN, and RTVE. In addition, Phoenix will work closely with the UN to create a dialogue about "best of" UN programming of interest to its viewers.

The United Nations produces a range of programmes for television, including "UN in Action" a series of 57 short-format programmes (3-4 minutes) covering the work of the UN and its agencies. "World Chronicle", is a half-hour talk show featuring key personalities from the world of government, foreign affairs and public policy. In addition, documentaries on key issues are produced by the UN such as the award-winning "Armed to the Teeth" which focuses on the proliferation of small arms.
