NYC TV 74 to broadcast UNITED NATIONS TELEVISION PROGRAMMES

(NEW YORK) - Effective February, 2003, the New York based NYC TV 74 channel commenced broadcasting a range of United Nations television programmes, including award-winning "UN in Action", short program series on the world's current affairs, "World Chronicle", a weekly half an hour talk show, and selected documentaries. NYC TV 74 has created a new 30 minutes slot of UN programming entitled Eyes on the World to be aired every Tuesday at 9:30 p.m.*
Airing UN-produced television programmes, NYC TV 74, joins a growing UN network of broadcasters that includes CCTV China, CNBC World, CNN World Report, RTP Africa, RTVE Spain and many other major international players. By developing an innovative package of archival and new thematic UN compilations, NYC TV 74 will provide a deep insight at what UN does both at headquarters in New York, and in the field all over the world.
Now closely working with the "best of" UN TV programmes, and reaching an audience of almost 2 million households, NYC TV 74 becomes a principal UN partner being located in the host city of UN Headquarters. The official television network of the City of New York, NYC TV 74 is available on basic cable and reaches a potential audience of more than 4 million people in all five boroughs of New York City. The Network is administered by the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications. NYC TV 74 launched in the summer of 2003 and replaced what had been New York City's government channel, Crosswalks NYC, which existed from 1992 to 2003.
The United Nations audiovisual department offers a wealth of videos, television programmes and archival film material to major broadcasters and well established producers. The United Nations welcomes prospective partners to jointly bring compelling human stories into the homes of millions of viewers around the world.
