Dowry
and Bride-burning in India - Parts 1 & 2
It is estimated
that some 25,000 brides are burned each year in India by their
in-laws because they fail to meet dowry demands. In this programme,
the stories of four women who fell victim to dowry and/or bride-burning;
and a look at the historical, religious, economic and social background
of these illegal practices, as well as the legal implications
and actions of advocates to end their abuse.
