Kenya ends 2007 and starts the New Year with fire and death.
Since the announcement of the results of the general elections
in the country, scores of people have been killed as riot
police clamp down on protests, and violence flares among
Kenyans.

Libya, which faced diplomatic isolation by the West for
many years, starts the year by presiding over the Security
Council. Libyan Ambassador Giadalla Ettalhi talks about
some of the issues he expects the Council to discuss in

Look Back at the UN and Africa in 2007
2007 clearly marked the
start of a process by the United Nations to secure a Climate
Change pact that once in place, will be one of the great
accomplishments of the world body. But 2007 will also be
remembered as a year in which turmoil and terror, spread
across the globe. For UN Radio and TV, Ahmad Fawzi takes
a look at some of the highlights of the year, including
the situation in Darfur, the Democratic Republic of the
Congo, Somalia and the Millennium Development Goals in Africa.

African Ambassadors' Wives Help Sisters Back Home
In
the mid-1980s, a group of African ambassadors wives in New
York wanted to do something about the famine in Ethiopia.
Pooling their talents, including kitchen skills, they raised
$50,000 for UN relief efforts and they haven't stopped.
The UN African Mothers Association (UNAMA) continues to
raise thousands of dollars through luncheons and other events
to benefit women and children in Africa.
Health Project Helps Remote village
in Burundi
A
health centre in a remote village of Burundi is giving a
gift of life to people who are in desperate need of medical
service in the country. Deo Niyizonkiza, a Burundian medical
student involved in the project, says that despite the problems
it is encountering, such as lack of electricity, the facility
is already seeing an average of sixty patients a day.
Children Take Over Airwaves of
UNMIL Radio in Liberia
The
end of December is an exciting time for children expecting
gifts. But the beginning of the month was equally exciting
for Liberian children who took over the airwaves of UNMIL
Radion for this year's International Children's Day of Broadcasting.
