UN Secretary-General Continues
His Visit to Sudan
The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon continues his mission
to Sudan,
Chad
and Libya as part of preparations for the deployment of
a hybrid United Nations-African Union peacekeeping force
in Darfur. He has seen first hand the suffering of internally
displace people in this troubled region of Sudan.
"I was so shocked and humbled when want I visited IDP
camps. I was shocked at the poverty and hardship all these
tens of thousands of people were undergoing"
Thousands of Civilians Flee Fighting
in the Eastern Part of Congo-Kinshasa
Thousands
of people have been forced to flee their homes in the eastern
part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo as government
troops, renegade soldiers and militias resume fighting.
The Force Commander of the UN peacekeepers in the country,
General Bubacar Gaye says the UN Mission is doing its best
to resolve the problem. "What is occurring is
that, unfortunately, we are seeing confrontation between
the government and forces loyal to Laurent Nkunda."

Amadou and Mariam are a couple of musicians from
Mali whose music is popular
throughout
Africa and Europe.But Amadou Bagayoko is concerned about
the negative impact of piracy on the livelihoods of musicians
and is appealing to people to stop it and to support artists.

UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon announced his trip to
Sudan, Chad and Libya next week as part of preparations
for the deployment of a hybrid African Union/United Nations

that last month the Security Council decided to deploy the
joint force of 26,000 peacekeepers after many months of
what he describes as "difficult diplomacy.""I
want to go and see for myself the very difficult conditions
under which our forces will operate."
