People are stranded off the coast of Malta after being rescued at sea; The latest human rights report about the conflict in Darfur; President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia on progress she has made so far

Fifty-one people are stranded off the coast of Malta after being rescued at sea as they tried to get to Europe but Malta is reluctant to allow them to enter its shores:

"We are very understanding and very aware of the difficult situation that the authorities in Malta are facing given the fact that large numbers of asylum seekers, refugees and migrants are landing not only in Malta but also in other Mediterranean islands at the moment "

What does the latest UN human rights report say about the conflict in Darfur following the May 5th Agreement?

"The conclusion of this report is that since the signing of that Darfur Peace Agreement, the DPA, there has been no improvement in the human rights situation in that Western Sudanese region. "

President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia says her government has made progress six months into her term:

"We've put a government
together with a lot of dedicated, able people. We've got sanctions lifted. We've got a new army that is now being recruited.

Five UN peacekeepers are released but a journalist is killed as DRC prepares for elections;
Somalia's humanitarian situation;
WFP says it may stop feeding thousands of Angolans

Five UN Peacekeepers from Nepal are released after spending more than a month in captivity in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. "We are extremely relieved by this happy ending of what has been quite an ordeal, especially for the soldiers that were captured," says Kemal Saiki, the spokesman for the United Nations mission, MONUC.

The UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, Jan Egeland, says relief workers are stepping up operations in Somalia."Somalia has been perhaps the most difficult case for the humanitarian community over these last 15 years. For large periods the Somali people have been left completely to cope on their own."
