ERITREA AND ETHIOPIA POISED FOR RENEWED WAR
LIBERIANS CHOOSE BETWEEN A FOOTBALLER AND AN ECONOMIST FOR PRESIDENT

International concern rises dramatically over the potential of war breaking out again between Ethiopia and Eritrea. We hear from the top UN envoy on the ground, Legwaila Joseph Legwaila: "Both of them are telling us that they are not preparing for war, and that war is something that they cannot afford, that my force commander knows what preparations for war looks like and therefore when we see this ... , we are concerned, and that's the reason why we have to make sure that the international community is aware."

Secretary-General Kofi Annan after an urgent Security Council meeting on Eritrea and Ethiopia: "We've all appealed for calm; we are in touch with the leaders in the region. I spoke to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia today. And we're seeking other measures to try and get our message through, to try and improve the situation on the ground so that we can carry out our mandate." . MP3 Real Audio

UNICEF ON HIV/AIDS-AFFECTED CHILDREN

The UN's Children's Agency and UNAIDS join others to launch a new campaign to highlight the plight of millions of children affected by HIV/AIDS - the majority of them in Africa. "Every minute of every day, a child dies because of AIDS," says Ann Veneman of UNICEF.

Twenty-year-old Namibian mother, Livey Van Wyk speaks about her experience living with HIV/AIDS: "When I was 17, the same day I found out I was pregnant. I also found out I was HIV positive. My mother banished me to my grandmother's farm. The local people were afraid of HIV ... When they saw me, they would throw stones at me."

And UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, cites some examples for governments around the world. Plus the Rwandan First Lady, Jeanette Kagame , who is President of the Organizations of African Ladies Against HIV/AIDS.
