SUDAN: FROM BAD TO WORSE

West Africa is thrown into fresh crisis after the government of Cote D’Ivoire launched a fresh offensive against the rebels in the north.

The situation in Sudan’s Darfur Region moves from bad to worse, and the UN’s top envoy on the ground, Jan Pronk, says it’s not just the government that’s to blame: “The humanitarian assistance to is increasingly being hampered not by the government, but by the rebels because they are closing roads, they are stopping food transport.”

Plus, Violence between Muslims and Christians in the Liberian capital test the peace process but the former rebels announce they are disbanding. We ask the head of the UN’s Liberia Mission Jacques Klein, ‘what next?’:Now, what we going to do is cordon off parts of the city, when we get rumours we’ll do raids and those emergency measures are working.”
