THE US PUTS PRESSURE ON THE SUDAN GOVERNMENT &
ETHIOPIA AND ERITREA DEADLOCKED: IS THE UN FAILING?

The US puts pressure on the Sudan government with a new resolution. And Secretary-General Kofi Annan speaks about the need for comprehensive peace for the whole of Sudan.

"I think they are so far advanced on the Southern process that they should be able to make progress. What is important is that the Government adopt a strategic approach to bring peace to the whole of Sudan."

As Ethiopia and Eritrea remain deadlocked over their contentious border demarcation, we ask the outgoing UN Force Commander, General Robert Gordon, if the UN has failed in the Horn.

"That would be a very simplistic view. The UN is not there to demarcate the border; the UN is there to maintain stability. "
