HARNESSING AFRICA'S HUMAN AND NATURAL RESOURCES

How can Africa make the most of its people and its natural resources?

"We are not in charge of what we have to learn. We don't learn what is really necessary for our development," says UN expert in natural resources, Professor Uzo Mokwunye .

And, why do some African nations with great resources like oil or diamonds have the worst conflicts? UN Director on Africa, Ms Yvette Stevens says,
"If you look at the investments in Africa, the countries that have been at war are the countries that have had the heaviest investments. Why? Because they have been exploiting natural resources, including oil."

We hear from the two UN experts and Mr Paul Yaw Essel of the Ghana Mission to the UN, as they offer ideas, thoughts and solutions on the subject of human capacity development and Natural Resources in Africa.
