The United Nations General Assembly decided to convene the Second World Assembly on Ageing in 2002, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the First World Assembly on Ageing, held in Vienna in 1982. The Second Assembly, to be hosted by the Government of Spain, will review the outcome of the First Assembly and revise the 1982 Plan of Action while taking cognizance of the current ageing processes and their impact on the social, cultural and economic realities of each society. The resolution urges the international community to facilitate collaboration across sectors and nations, and to reach out to the development community, the media, the private sector and younger generations in an effort to create a society for all ages.
