UNIC Moscow hosted a presentation of the book “Our Peacekeepers in the Balkans” on the International Peacekeeper’s Day 2007.
That book represented a compilation of reminiscences,
the first of its kind, by former Russian military and civilian peacekeepers
in all parts of the Former Yugoslavia.
Besides, each of its contributing authors had her or his own take on the efforts
by the international community to assist in tempering the conflict.
UNIC partners in organizing the presentation were the association
of veterans of UN peacekeeping operations, that was a charitable foundation ‘Mirotvorets’ (Peacekeeper,) and Dr. Elena Guskova, head of the Centre for the Study of the Modern Balkan Crisis
under the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences
who had contributed to and also had edited the book.
The ceremony to mark the conclusion of the one-week UN Peacekeepers awareness campaign
was held at the UNIC Harare Offices on Monday 29 May,
2006 and was attended by over 80 people including senior government
officials, members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Zimbabwe Republic police,
membersof the diplomatic corps and the media.
On May 29, 2006 UNIS Vienna commemorated the International Day of UN Peacekeepers. The Chief of Defence Staff of the Austrian Armed Forces started the ceremony.

The Vice-President of the United Nations Association of Austria and former Foreign Minister of Austria, Dr. Willibald Pahr presented a medal to an Austrian peacekeeper.
The Chief of Defence Staff of the Austrian Armed Forces was also present at the ceremony.
And last but not least, military-style goulash was served to a contingent of UN peace-keepers from Austria and Slovakia.
In May 2006, UNIC Antananarivo organized “One Week for Peace” for the high school
of the Malagasy Army.
Series of seminars were in the program.
They covered the concept of peacekeeping,
the national policy for the peacekeeping,
the role of the army in the peacekeeping, and role of the UN and the Security Council.
The closing ceremony was attended by the head of the Malagasy Army,
the resident Coordinator of the UN System, UNIC Director,
and the military school principal.
The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) and the Foreign Service Academy
jointly organised a seminar on UN peacekeeping operations in Islamabad on 29 May 2006.
The Director General of Inter Services Public Relations Major General Shaukat Sultan,
Mr Paneerselvam Perambalam of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations,
and Mr Niaz A Naik, former Foreign Secretary participated in the event.
UNIC Bucharest has held a press conference on May 27, 2005 to publicise the International Peacekeepers Day. The UNIC also produced, together with the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Administration and Interior, a leaflet to be distributed to all participants of the press conference.
UNIC Islamabad organized a commemoration of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, on 27 May 2005. A seminar was put together with the assistance of the Institute of Strategic Studies (ISSI), among the guests were Paktistan's Foreign Secretary, Mr Riaz Mohammad Khan, the Swedish Ambassador, Ms. Ann Wilkens, and Major General Imtiaz Qureshi.
UNIC Harare has produced an information brochure about Zimbabwe's Contribution to Peacekeeping Missions, to mark the International Day of UN Peacekeepers in 2005.
A conference was held in Antananarivo, Madagascar, to mark the International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2005. The Deputy Resident Coordinator of the UN System and UNIC Director, M Bouri Sanhouidi, held a speech which included an exposé of peacekeeping, he also touched on issues related to UN Reform, the MDG's and the September Summit.
To commemorate the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, the United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) organized a number of events throughout May 2005to pay tribute to the men and women who have and continue to serve in United Nations peacekeeping operations, and to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace.
