The Director of UNIC Tehran briefed around eleven students from the News College of Islamic Republic News Agency on 20 February 2008. The meeting was about the history of the United Nations, the outcome and follow-up of the 2005 World Summit, UN Reform and Millennium Development Goals. The National Information Officer of UNIC Tehran talked to them about the activities and services of the UNIC.

On 23 and 24 November 2007 UNIC Harare undertook an educational outreach in six primary schools in the Midlands province of Gweru, about 300 kilometres south of Harare. The outreach targeted pupils in Grades 5 and 6, who are aged 10 and eleven years. It is in these grades that the curriculum begins to introduce in greater detail teachings on the United Nations. In the seventh grade, the students sit an examination where the United Nations is one of the topics.

An Art Competition on Climate Change was organized by UNIC Dhaka on 6 July
2007 at the auditorium of National Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka
University. About 300 children from six to fourteen years of age took part in the
competition.
A discussion programme preceded the prize distribution ceremony, which was
attended by the leading environmentalists, artists and representatives of the
UN organizations.
An choir also rendered songs on the issue to highlight the hazards of environmental degradation.
The event was highly covered by both print and electronic media.

REPORT ON UN PRESS CLUB « RENCONTRE »:
DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD 2007
The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Yaoundé, in collaboration with UNICEF, Yaoundé organized a UN PRESS CLUB “Rencontre” on Thursday 14 June 2007. The objective of the Media Outreach Event was to disseminate information and sensitize the media (and NGO’s) on the theme chosen for Day of the African Child 2007: “THE FIGHT AGAINST CHILD TRAFFICKING/CHILD LABOUR”.
The event gathered officials of the UN System DRR/ UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF staff and the Ministry of Social Affairs. The panelists on the United Nations answered to several journalists’ questions improving the exchange and information-sharing and clarifying issues relating to the subject.

As a part of a museum celebration on the occasion of the International Museum Day, 2007, a free guided tour was organized for around ninety schoolchildren from the internally displaced communities from the Shusha, Jabrayil and Lachin regions. The UN DPI Officer accompanied the children on the tour.
The UN DPI office in Baku ititiated the tour, which was facilitated through the great support of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Head of State Committee on Refugee and IDP issues.

On International Day of Volunteers (5 December 2006) UNIC Bujumbura has organized a children's drawing competition. 10 primary schools in Bujumbura participated to the drawing competition. 40 drawings we exhibited at UNIC, among them, 3 were awarded. They were kept by UNIC Bujumbura for possible re-exhibition.

On Monday, 11 September 2006 UNIC Pretoria was invited by the Tschwane Technikon University - Department of Media and Journalism - for a talk on the work of the UN in South and Southern Africa. UNIC Communications Officer briefed more than 60 students on the role and mandate of the UNIC Pretoria-office, UN Reform and MDGs and the importance of UNIC as a public information office. After an elaborate Q & A-session, there was a meet and greet with the academic staff of the department.

On 11 August 2006 UNIC Pretoria addressed 40 students from the University of North West (Mafikeng Campus), Faculty of Human and Social Sciences and the department of History, Politics, Peace Studies and International Relations.
The UNIC Communications Officer presented the following topics: UN structure, UN Reform and MDG’s as well as the mandate of the UNIC office in Pretoria. After the presentation there was time for a Q & A session, which had a large focus on the current situation in the Middle East and the possible role and impact of a UN-mission in Lebanon.

To mark International Youth Day, UNIS Vienna invited a group of unaccompanied young refugees and asylum seekers, ages 14-18, who came to Austria from a range of places including Chechnya, Guinea, Nigeria, and the Republic of Moldova, to visit the Vienna United Nations building on 11 August 2006. The theme for this year’s International Youth Day was “Tackling Poverty Together”.

On Friday 02 June 2006 UNIC Pretoria organized a "FUN"
- Fridays at UN - educational outreach activity in the UNIC library in Pretoria.
55 Grade 11 and 12 students from the Vukani Mawethu High School in Mamelodi
participated in the program.
After a brief introduction by the UNIC Communications
Specialist on the history, role and structure of the organisation,
the UN Resident Representative in South Africa
talked about the UN reform and its importance to the continent.
The students of the Kitso-Kakanyo mentorship programme showed interest
in getting involved with the local UN-institutions.

On Saturday, 26 May 2006 UNIC Pretoria supported the University of Pretoria
United Nations Association during their activity for the University Open Day.
UNIC provided publications and logistical support to the information stand
and a UNIC-representative was present to answer questions.

On Friday, 05 May 2006, UNIC Pretoria organized its first Fridays at UN "FUN" educational outreach activity in the UNIC library in Pretoria.
15 Grade 11 students from the Loreto Convent School in Pretoria participated in the pilot program, where schools come in on Friday morning for a talk on the UN, its role and function in South Africa. The following issues were briefly discussed:
- History of the UN
- Bodies of the UN
- 2005 World Summit and the reform
- MDG’s
- United Nations in South Africa
- The role of the UN Information Office
- Getting involved with the UN
After the presentation, the UNIC Officer-in-charge and the UNIC librarian organized a questions and answers session and the school was provided with an information pack.

UNIS Vienna participated in a panel discussion on “The UN and Austria – Past, Present and Future”, organized by a Viennese high school and the Academic Forum for Foreign Affairs (Austria) which took place in Vienna on 3 May 2006.
Panellists included members of the Austrian Foreign and Defence Ministries, the President of the Austrian UN Association; and the President of the Academic Forum for Foreign Affairs (Austria). The event was attended by around 200 high-school students and their teachers.

On 27 April 2006,students from Islamabad and Rawalpindi visited the Biodiversity Park at Margah, an ESCAP project, in a study tour programme organised by the UN System in Pakistan. The park in Rawalpindi was opened by the ESCAP Executive Secretary in January 2005.

More than 80 university students were chosen to participate in the sixth edition of UNIC
Rio de Janeiro programme, Youth for Peace in April 2006. The students took a three-week course
– given by UNIC staff – on the UN main goals and objectives, its functioning, structure,
etc. After the course, the students will act as UNIC Rio Volunteers and brief primary
and secondary schools
pupils on the United Nations in the many educational centres of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

On 28 February 2005, UNIC Yaounde organized Educational Outreach events at Lycée Biyem-Assi.
There was a discussion and a question and answer session. Prizes for students who answered questions on the United Nations correctly included Basic Facts About the UN , Universal Declaration of Human Rights , UN Charter and the Secretary-General’s "Message on International Women’s Day (IWD)".
The students expressed a lot of enthusiasm. The students said such things as “I will be a Kofi Annan in future”, and “I want to save the World from Conflicts and Wars”.

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Yaounde organized another Educational Outreach event at College Vogt on 9 March 2005.
The objective of the outreach event was to disseminate information about the United Nations and its work in Cameroon and worldwide. UN Documents were used as prizes for questions correctly answered about the UN. A collection of UN Documents was handed-over to the School Library.
