Friday 7th July 2006, UNIC Antananarivo organized a conference on proliferation of small arms for the media network. UNIC NIO explained the objective of the conference in New York during the workshop. UNIC invited two police officers from the ministry of public security in order to explain the situation in Madagascar. According to their explanation, there is an increasing level of violence and robbery in the country.

The danger is that Madagascar is a big Island and it is too difficult for the migration police to control the coast because of the lack of resources. The Ministry of Public Security works with Interpol to fight against terrorists in Madagascar.

The journalists asked the UNIC NIO to organize other conferences about the security in Antananarivo following this debate.
