On Friday 18 September 2006 the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) invited UNIC Pretoria to host a presentation on the role of Public Information in Peacekeeping Operations during their annual Training for Peace course. The UNIC Communications officer focused on the relation of public information to capacity building efforts in peace keeping, civilian components of peacekeeping operations, conflict management and civil-military co-operation. The 25 participants from various countries on the continent shared experiences from the field and there was an extensive Q & A session.

More than 80 university students were chosen to participate in the sixth edition of UNIC Rio de Janeiro programme, Youth for Peace, in March-April 2006. The students took a three-week course – given by UNIC staff – on the UN main goals and objectives, its functioning and structure.

After the course, the students will act as UNIC Rio Volunteers and brief primary and secondary schools pupils on the United Nations in the many educational centres of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
