The United Nations Department of Public Information (UN DPI) Baku in partnership with the Azerbaijan National Commission for UNESCO, Ataturk Centre and the Association of Culture of Azerbaijan “Simurg” facilitated a roundtable discussion on the “Need for a Culture of Dialogue on the road to a Dialogue of Cultures” on 19 May 2007 at Ataturk Centre bringing together around eighty participants from three ministries, (Culture and Tourism, Foreign Affairs, and Youth and Sport), State Committee for Family, Women and Children, Chairs for the Parliamentary Commissions for Human Rights, Culture, and the representative of the Commission on International Relations of the Parliament, and other government officials and even a political opposition representative, as well as heads and members of different CSOs and NGOs, academic institutions and universities, representatives of international organizations. The topic of discussion and the high level of representation drew significant mass media attention.

UNIC Prague together with a coalition of NGOs (Czechs Against Poverty) organized a "Walk the World" event in two cities, Prague and Decin, on 16 May 2007. The event was held under the auspices of the Czech Foreign Minister, the President of the Czech Olympic Committee and the UN family in the Czech Republic.
More than 1.500 participants walked in downtown Prague. Hundreds more attended the music festival after the Walk on the centrally located island on the river of Vltava (the walk started and ended there).

On Tuesday, 12 September 2006, UNIC Moscow held a meeting to
discuss the outcome of the 59th Annual DPI/NGO Conference.
UNIC Director outlined the major elements of discussion during the Conference.
The meeting focused on how the specific priorities of Russian civil society fit into the global NGO
agenda.
Oleg Demekhin, a counselor at the Russian Foreign Ministry,
also participated in the discussion.

was invited by the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution
of Disputes (ACCORD) for a presentation on the
role and best practises of public information in Disarmament,
Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) operations.
20 participants from various African
countries participate in this five-day training.

ON 8 September 2006 and in conjunction with the annual NGO Conference at UN Headquarters,
UNIC New Delhi, in collaboration with FINCUN
(Forum of Indian NGOs for Cooperation With UN) held a seminar for Indian NGOs.
Speakers at "Effective Partnerships for Human Security and Sustainable Development"
were: Ambassador K.V. Rajan, former Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs
and Convenor, IILM India Forum, Centre for Development, Policy, and Management;
Prof. Muchkund Dubey, President of the Council for Social Development; Ms. Usha Rai,
Senior journalist; and Mr. Romesh Chandra and Ms. Razia Ismail, Co-Presidents,
Forum of Indian NGOs for Cooperation With UN. The UNIC New Delhi Director opened the seminar with a statement
on the how the concept of human security had evolved at the UN.

In order to inform and to sensitize the members of the civil
society on the UN Reform, UNIC Ouagadougou organized on 1 June 2006 in its premises,
a conference on the UN Reform.
This conference was organized for the benefit
of 40 members of the local Association named “Lions Club” of Ouagadougou .

UNIC Bujumbura co-organized with "Kirimba", a NGO working with the local
media and journalists and UNDP a two-day- training session for local
journalists, from 26 to 27 May 2006 - in Novotel Hotel conference room - on
the theme, "Violation of the Press Law and Good Governance". 60 journalists
from all the local media participate to the training. UNIC seized also the
opportunity to disseminate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the
kit for participants.

During his three day official visit to South Africa UN Secretary-General
Kofi Annan met with representatives civil society organisations at the Ubuntu Kraal Conference
Centre in Soweto on 15 March 2006. After a
brief multimedia presentation about social inclusion, Mr. Annan
discussed the UN reform and the New
Human Rights Council, progress in the MDG’s for the region and the UN’s
response to poverty, nderdevelopment and inequality. All participants
signed the Soweto Statement, which was delivered to the Secretary-General.

UNIC Yaounde organized an NGO/Civil Society Book Event on 26 January 2005. The idea was to distribute UN documents such as Basic Facts,the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Charters, the Millennium Project, and the Report of the High Level Panel on UN Reforms, to Representatives of NGOs and Civil Society, who will, in turn, disseminate information about the United Nations and its substantive work.

UN DPI Yerevan organized a special event in cooperation with the the NGO “The Future is Yours”, on December 6, 2004 . The latter work to help orphans living in Yerevan to get through elementary school. During the event these children explained how the volunteers have made their lives easier.
